Jason and I went to see this last night and honestly loved it. But you make a fantastic case for its mediocrity, and I don't think that I would argue many of them. I think instead that some of the choices that didn't work for you worked for me.
For sure. I seem to be definitively in the minority here. And maybe to be clear - I don't hate this movie. I kind of think it's fine. But I think it's getting more run and praise than the ideas in it deserve. Sean Baker's Tangerine kind of got press like this when it came out a decade ago. And I kinda think that movie achieved much more with a lot less to work with.
Pretty well dissected review of a banal movie that everyone is “ obsessed “ with for reasons that I can’t fathom ….. glad for the parties involved to find a breakthrough debut movie, but, like you, the fascination with this entity escapes me.

Yeah, it doesn't really add up to me. Nothing in it strikes me as particularly novel.
